A Soulful Sanctuary in Southern Spain: My Visit to Tribu del Alma
A Soulful Sanctuary in Southern Spain: My Visit to Tribu del Alma
This spring, I felt a calling to return to Andalucía, in the sun-drenched south of Spain. It was my second time in the region, but this visit held a different kind of pull—more intuitive, more intentional. I had come across whispers online of a retreat place called Tribu del Alma, run by a small group of Dutch visionaries. Their story intrigued me, so I followed my instinct and sent a spontaneous email. To my surprise, I received a warm invitation.
They were in the middle of building a yurt, and I was welcome to visit, stay the night, and witness their unfolding project. I didn’t think twice.
The drive was about 50 minutes through olive groves and sun-bleached hills. The further I drove, the more the roads narrowed into dust paths. Adventure had begun. When I finally arrived, I saw the familiar house from their website—Finca Pura Vida, set against the dramatic landscape of La Hoya, near Gaucín. Music drifted through the air. Laughter echoed across the hills. I stepped out with my camera, and Danielle greeted me with a smile that felt like home.
She led me down a thorny trail to where the yurt was being constructed, surrounded by friends and family, all working together. That moment struck something deep in me—a sense of shared purpose, real connection, and the beginning of something meaningful.
From Head to Heart: The Origin of Tribu del Alma
Tribu del Alma was born not just from a dream, but from a leap of faith.
On February 19, 2022, Danielle, Felix, and their team first visited the land. They felt its energy immediately—powerful, loving, magical. Yet, like many dreams, doubt came too: too big, too expensive, too many obstacles. But just three days later, on 22.02.2022 at 10:22 p.m., they wrote down the intention to manifest this place. They named it Pura Vida—“Pure Life”—even though they didn’t have the means to make it happen yet.
Still, they trusted the deep resonance they felt.
Help came from an unexpected place. By March 2, their offer was accepted—coincidentally on the 50th birthday of one of their co-founders, Ray Klaassen. Despite paperwork stress and moments of fear, their vision stayed alive. On June 17, the contract was signed. The land—and the dream—was now theirs.
Today, Tribu del Alma is an invitation. A gateway for people to shift from their heads into their hearts. A sacred space for anyone who feels called to host or attend a retreat. As they say:
“We believe in the healing power of the group, of the Tribe… where everyone is mirrored by each other in the deeper layer.”
It’s no coincidence they chose the name Tribu del Alma—Soul Tribe.
A Living Space for Retreats and Reconnection
The land where Tribu del Alma is rooted has its own powerful story. Thirty years ago, sixteen English friends settled in this quiet microclimate outside Gaucín. The breeze makes even 30+ degrees feel pleasant, and the winters are gentle and dry. It’s a place of calm, of stillness. A place that continues to call the right people in.
The property offers sleeping accommodations for up to 12 guests, in shared double rooms. It’s simple, spacious, and full of heart. Every detail feels purposeful—from the shaded nooks to the outdoor kitchen, the fire pit, and now, the freshly built yurt, which I watched rise from the earth like a sacred temple.
Whether you’re organizing a yoga week, an art retreat, or a gathering of conscious creatives, this is a space that wants to support your work.
Felix and Danielle aren’t running a commercialized center—they’re stewards of a vision. They welcome facilitators with open arms and an open mind. Their 2024 agenda is already growing, but there’s still space for new collaborations. If you feel the call, reach out. You’ll be heard.
My Own Experience: From Curiosity to Connection
Though I was only there for a short time, something shifted in me. The ease of conversation. The warmth of the people. The clarity in the air. I felt both deeply welcomed and subtly changed. Even as I packed my bag to leave, I knew this wasn’t a one-time visit.
It felt like the beginning of a relationship—with the land, the people, and the project itself.
